This week’s gallery theme is Walks. I walk along the lake path here a couple of times a week and in the summer we cycle along it to the beaches nearby. Local residents jog the trail, skate it, walk their dogs along it and it’s a real draw for people in all weathers. Usually I have my camera with me so my choice of photos for this theme is huge but most of them are on my blog already where I write about the lake through the seasons or show some amazing views in the snow. I decided, instead of rolling out photos I’ve shown before, to show a different walk we have nearby at a nature reserve.
Locally the area is well know for it’s abundance of wildlife but what makes it extraordinary is the tameness of the animals. All you need is a handful of sunflower seeds and to stand still for a few seconds.
The place is teaming with birds, squirrels, chipmunks as well as larger animals like Racoons, Opossum, Beavers and Muskrats but it is the sheer boldness of the chickadees and the squirrels that get visitors returning time after time. The area we chose to move to when we emigrated has many fine attributes, the vast array of wildlife being one of them but we had no idea of the how much of it was literally on our doorstep.
